Provincial Court
When at full complement, the Provincial Court consists of a Chief Judge and 49 additional judges. From time to time, there are vacancies on the Court due to retirements, etc.
The Court also uses temporary judges in some of its locations to help meet the needs of a demanding schedule. While all judges are assigned a home location, each will also travel to other locations to hear cases on a regular basis.
Chief Judge Shannon L. Metivier
Chief Judge Shannon L. Metivier received her L.L.B. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1992 and was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1993. She practiced law as an associate and then as a partner at McKercher LLP in Saskatoon. While in private practice, she was a civil litigator with a wide-ranging practice and was actively involved in law firm administration.
Chief Judge Metivier was appointed to the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan on April 18, 2013. On March 1, 2021, she became the Chief Judge.
She has a special interest in the intersection of mental health and the justice system and currently serves as Chairperson of the Saskatchewan Review Board.

Temporary Judges
Temporary judges are appointed by Order in Council and are typically judges who have retired or resigned from the Court.
Temporary judges may sit anywhere in the province as they are needed.
