On January 1st, 2006, the monetary limit for cases that may be heard by small claims court increases from $5,000 to $10,000. Amendments to The Provincial Court Act establish a Civil Division of Provincial Court to reflect the specialized nature of small claims adjudication. Amendments to The Small Claims Act establish a pre-trial case management process for small claims matters. A case management judge will be available to assist the parties to settle the matter without going to trial.
