The Manitoba Court of King’s Bench and the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench were scheduled to hold a joint education session in Winnipeg this coming week. Given the state of emergency in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba and the pressing need to make hotel spaces available for evacuees from the wildfires, Chief Justice Joyal of the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench and Chief Justice Popescul of the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench have determined that it is in the public interest that the joint education meeting scheduled for this coming week be cancelled.
The courts are mindful of the serious and devastating impact these fires are having on communities in both provinces and of the institutional need to provide support to the efforts already underway.
