The Chief Judges of the province’s three courts recently completed a three-day tour of Saskatchewan’s North, stopping in several communities to meet with local leaders. Chief Justice of Saskatchewan Robert Richards, Chief Justice Martel Popescul of the Court of Queen’s Bench, and Chief Judge Carol Snell of the Provincial Court were accompanied by Minister of Justice and Attorney General Gordon Wyant and Deputy Minister of Justice Kevin Fenwick, along with several Ministry officials. The group stopped in Wollaston Lake, Stony Rapids, La Loche, Buffalo Narrows, Ile à la Crosse and Meadow Lake. The tour gave the judges and the government officials a first-hand opportunity to see court in action in the northern communities. As well, they were able to hear directly from community leaders about the concerns and challenges related to the administration of justice in the North.
